Miami University in SmartMoney Top 50

To conduct the survey, the magazine used an outside compensation-data company based in Seattle, PayScale, which maintains salary profiles of more then 29 million workers.

According to the magazine, data was collected from two groups: graduates who have worked two years on average (class of 2009) and mid-career workers who average 15 years since graduating (class of 1996). The median salary was divided by tuition and fees, averaged, then converted to a percent to give a "payback score."

The scores do not take into account financial aid, which schools say they're increasing, and tuition amounts reflect out-of-state totals. They also do not include other intangible factors that make an education more valuable, the magazine said.

Miami's payback score was 146. Recent graduates who paid $93,195 in tuition in four years (assuming they paid full price) earn a median pay of $45,800 and mid-career workers who paid $37,606 make a median $91,400.

Miami Valley Career Technology Center

CONSIDER A CAREER IN FOOD SCIENCE, beginning at the Miami Valley Career Technology Center!

MVCTC is the only high school in Ohio currently offering a Food Science program.  This program gives high school students the foundation to go on to pursue a career as a  scientist, biochemist, nutritionist, etc. and is a great start to pursuing post-secondary education at The Ohio State University.  It has been reported that many of these jobs go unfilled in Ohio with the more than 1,000 food processing businesses in the state. We see this as being the new agriculture education programs that combine traditional Ag education with today’s demand for science and technology skills.
